year 1982. In December, 1982, a plague hit the small town of Toxin Alley, sending the once peaceful city into anarchy. Dogs were the main carriers of this disease, an illness that was like a hyped up form of rabies, and thus were the ones persecuted by the humans for this. After a solid year of fighting, the humans thought they had overcome the illness for good.
They were wrong.
year 2005
More than two decades later, the plague returned to the town of Toxin Alley. But this time, it brought more destruction. It was like a super bug - nothing could be done to stop it's spread, and this time it was attacking human hosts as well. To stop the spread of the infection the infected animals and humans were hunted and killed, either by gun or brute force. However, this did little to slow the destruction that was to come. Redoubling, the plague was only put to a stop when the people of Toxin Alley set fire to the city and burned it and its residents to the ground. Only a few pieces of the original Toxin Alley remain, as the other three fourths are burnt ashes. No one is allowed to venture towards these ruins, for it is rumored that you can bring the plague back for it's third course. And even the craziest of dogs aren't willing to take that risk. Many dogs were killed by the plague, as well as humans. And if the plague didn't get them, starvation or the massive fire did.
year 2006-2008
In the following years humans rebuilt a new city north of Toxin Alley, in hopes that they were far enough away from the plague infested grounds to prevent another outbreak. And though some dogs followed the humans from the heart of Toxin Alley, a few brave, or shall we say foolish, dogs still remain, hoping to rebuild the lives they once had in this hallowed town. And for some time they did succeed, despite the things that were against them. The dogs banded together and survived, creating packs and loose gangs of canines that cared for each other better than most families did. For a year or so life was good.
year 2009
Their existence is peaceful no longer, however - not by any measure. Creatures from the wild encroach upon the remains of the city, and slowly mother nature is taking back what was once hers. Wolves and their sub-species have been spotted on the outskirts of Toxin Alley, and in the wilderness near by, but it is unknown what their intentions are. The dogs are wary regardless - this species is unknown to them, but has a distinct aura about them that makes them feared by all. Smaller species, such as foxes and coyotes, have been spotted as well, but these are usually dealt with by fang and claw. They are puny, nothing compared to the Wolves that lurk in the shadows. Now, in early January, the two species of canines will have their first encounter. Who knows what the chance meeting will bring?
